A to Z Challenge: Writing Colors - Ecru

Happy Monday! Welcome back to the A to Z Challenge.

This year, I am providing different colors for descriptive purposes in writing using the website Color-ize to look at an alphabetical list of colors that we can use instead of using the same basic colors we know off the top of our heads. One color can come in so many shades, so why not take a look at them? :)

Today's color is: Ecru

This is an interesting color, kind of tan, not quite sandy, but people probably call it that. The first time I heard it was in a Colgate commercial. The teacher's teeth were NOT ecru, but kids are...kids. lol It's a nice color in many different situations. A beach just after high tide, wallpaper, kind of the dark patch of camouflage in army uniforms for the desert.

I never realized ecru was a tan color. I need to brush up on my colors! lol

I know this is going to sound crazy, but that color is one of my favorite colors to decorate with. It does remind me of the beach! And it's a great neutral color:)

Ecru always makes me think of makeup. It was my shade in a brand I used to wear a lot. Interesting A to Z theme. :-)

This is something I never thought about much but should. Saying tan is so dull when I could use ecru.

I'm sure I've heard this name applied to something that was off-white, definitely not as dark as tan. I guess they got it wrong - it was a jumper, I bought it anyway :-)

It definitely makes me think of sandy beaches. And now I wish I were there!

Ecru definitely is a nice color, and much more interesting name! I grew up in a home with parents who were decorators/designers and we had thousands of fabric samples and paint samples. So, not only did we learn hella actual color names, but we also saw all the imaginative names they came up with when they ran out of traditional ones!

Visiting from AtoZ. Nice to meet you!

I always thought ecru was more of a yellowish white than a light tan. Like an egg shell white or off white wedding dress color. This ecru seems a lot more soothing.

Good luck with the rest of the challenge!

First thing I thought of was my khaki shorts (I love me my many pockets :)

Now this is a cool theme!! I'm always struggling to find just the right color for things I was to describe. Though, I'm sure using 'Ecru' in place of 'tan' would confuse more people than it would help, it would certainly make me feel smarter!
